Thanks to You Our Mountain Shadows Family –
We are Only $2,000 Away from Our Goal of $20,000!
You Can Still Make a Difference in Honoring Our Mountain Shadows Fathers!
Throughout the month of June, we shared with you powerful stories which demonstrated the true meaning of fatherhood.
Sadly, there are few fathers, few parents, who are actively involved in the lives of their children living at Mountain Shadows.
For the children who have no fathers, who have no families, Mountain Shadows is home. We become their family, providing loving support for all of their needs.
And we ask, if you haven’t given, or if you can give even just a little bit more, please do. Because, as you will see in the story below about significant cuts to Medicaid that have just been signed into law, while our residents are Strong and Mighty, your philanthropic giving is crucial in today’s volatile climate. Your giving ensures Mountain Shadows Support Group can continue its vital work in serving the most vulnerable populations – our residents and clients – Because We Care.
And, thanks to our two generous donors – John and Tresa Martindale, and the Gaspare Family Foundation – the opportunity to double your donation, up to $10,000, has been extended. Please Click Here to Have Your Donation DOUBLED Today! |

Strong & Mighty: Residents Rally Against Medicaid Cuts $880 billion in cuts to Medicaid have just been approved – and Mountain Shadows residents have united – strong and mighty – to rally against them. “I want people to know it is important for them not to make these
budget cuts, because people like me won’t have a place to live. We won’t have anywhere to go.” ~Carlos Ash, MSCH-SD resident, prior to passage of Medicaid cuts |

“When our Mountain Shadows residents heard about the potential cuts to Medicaid, they immediately wanted to take action,” says Stacy Sullivan, Executive Director, MSSG/MSAS. “Several of them attended a rally, held at Darrell Issa’s office, to protest the cuts.” |
“I am so proud of our Mountain Shadows residents for advocating for themselves,” adds Stacy. “They were telling everyone, ‘This is how the cuts are going to affect me.’ They were saying, ‘I rely on this funding to sustain a home, to receive medical care, to have a person come in and care for me when I need it.'” |
MSCH – San Diego resident, Karen. |
“For the individuals we serve in our homes and day services, these proposed cuts are not just about numbers on a budget spreadsheet,” says Stacy. “They represent a potential loss of independence, a decline in health and well-being, and a significant step backward in their ability to lead full and integrated lives.” |
MSCH – SD resident, Carlos. |
Adds Sarah Tedrow, MSCH – San Diego, “This rally gave our residents the opportunity to step up and show the face of who the cuts affect. Our population often goes unnoticed.”
|
MSCH – SD resident, Kenny. |
“People who aren’t affected by cuts to Medicaid don’t see that this program supports and funds what our residents rely on to survive,” says Sarah. “It helps them get their medications, see their doctors, buy the clothes on their backs, buy the food in their kitchens.” |
MSCH – SD resident, Gary. |
Adds Patricia Macias, MSCH – SD, “There was a huge turnout at the rally, and all of the residents were well informed.
“MSCH – SD resident, Lupita, had a very emotional reaction when she learned about the proposed Medicaid cuts. She kept asking, ‘Why do they want to take my money away from me?’ She was shouting at the top of her lungs the whole time at the rally. This is a very important issue for her – for all of our residents.” |

“We are constantly fighting for funding,” adds Stacy. “This has been our reality for far too long. The individuals we serve have endured more than most of us can imagine. It’s disheartening that we must continue to advocate so fiercely, just to ensure they receive the same opportunities that others often take for granted.
“This is exactly why the Mountain Shadows Foundation is so vital to our mission. We are chronically underfunded, and now we’re facing even deeper, more devastating cuts. We cannot allow this to happen. These lives matter. This mission matters.
“Now, more than ever, we need your voice. We need your advocacy. We need your support.”
“We all came together as a community at the rally. It’s hard for the people at Mountain Shadows to speak up for themselves sometimes, but I think we accomplished what we set out to do.
“I hope the cuts don’t get passed and that we get the funding we need to stay afloat.” ~ MSCH – SD resident, Carlos, prior to passage of Medicaid cuts
“Our Mountain Shadows residents are strong and mighty,” says Stacy. “Their voices were definitely heard that day at the rally. Unfortunately, the cuts to Medicaid have been passed – but we will continue to advocate along with them.”
