Ballet Folklorico is a celebration of the vibrant Mexican culture through dance, music, costumes and storytelling. The MHHS Ballet Folklorico Club recently visited MSCH-San Diego, performing the traditional Mexican dance style which embodies the spirit of the Mexican people. |

“We wanted to do something different for the residents,” says Brittin Parker, MSCH-San Diego. “All of the residents came out. It was a really good time!” |

MHHS Folklorico dancers transcend borders with dynamic choreography, preserving a vibrant cultural heritage. |
“The Mission Hills High School team not only danced – they danced with the residents as well,” adds Brittin. “They asked for people to come up on stage and dance. Several residents were so excited they got up on their own and went on stage and danced. Kara and Paul, Stephanie, and Karen, all got up and danced with the MHHS team. Several other residents went on stage and danced in their wheelchairs. Johanna went on stage and danced with Josh and Brian. It was great!”

Folklorico dances are rooted in the histories of the indigenous cultures of Mexico. There are many different regional styles, representing various local customs and traditions. |

The popularity of Folklorico transcends borders, allowing people across the world to learn about the unique identities, talents, values, and stories of the traditional communities that laid the foundation of today’s Mexican culture. |

And on this day, a fully-accessible bridge was built, and all those who crossed – whether dancing or rolling – learned of the value of those on the other side. |

Folklorico is a beloved Mexican dance through which the MHHS Folklorico Club strives to honor its heritage.
And says the Silvertip, MHHS newsletter, “Anyone who joins the Folklorico Club should look forward to being full of energy and warm smiles.” Energy and warm smiles… Perhaps these are the qualities which may one day lead to the bridging of all cultural divides.
We thank all of the MHHS Folklorico Club members for sharing their energy and smiles with us! |
