John & Jeanne DeMeules 50th Reunion Cropped

Jeanne and John DeMeules

Remembering John...

John invented the term “Positive Attitude.” Whether it was work or play, no matter what situation he was faced with he always took it in stride and looked for the best outcome. And this could be on the golf course, facing a 30-foot putt with a double break, or out on the road for business with Hewlett Packard.

John spent his entire career with HP and was fortunate to retire early. His career, though, was only one slice of his life. He was the consummate family man, always being there for Jeanne and their daughters Jody and Jacquelyn even when times were difficult for them. During the summers they would all go to Lake Havasu to relax and soak in some rays. John also liked to play softball.

John was the Family Planner. For many summers he would organize the family trip to Hawaii which extended to John and Jeanne’s siblings and their families as well. He took great joy in doing this. When John made vacation arrangements for himself and Jeanne, he typically booked their favorite way to travel, cruising. Together they had the chance to experience many parts of the world, some of them fairly remote.

And John was a very social person. On golf days he was actually more interested in just sitting down and talking with the guys in the group. Golf was just the method of getting together weekly with his friends.

John was really excited and happy when his grandson Julian was born. He was ready to take on the new responsibility of being a grandparent and looked forward to seeing him grow up.

Both John and Jeanne were devastated with the sudden passing of their daughter Jody seven years ago. Mountain Shadows was an integral part of Jody’s care, and Jeanne is very supportive of the idea that our donations on John’s behalf will support their work.

Make a Difference at Mountain Shadows

Mountain Shadows Support Group is home to 165 people with intellectual disabilities.

With the help of supporters like you, Mountain Shadows Foundation (MSF) provides “extras” that brighten the lives of the residents of Mountain Shadows Support Group and participants of Mountain Shadows Ancillary Services’ programs. From engaging activities such as adaptive skiing, horseback riding, or swimming to purchasing special equipment, MSF helps provide a boost that improves the quality of the lives of the individuals with intellectual disabilities we care for and serve at Mountain Shadows.

Boat rides, Camp, and more!

This past spring, our Mountain Shadows--San DIego residents enjoyed the sights of San Diego Bay from the deck of the Coronado Ferry! For our residents this was a BIG deal. Not only is it the first time many of our residents have been aboard the ferry, or seen San Diego from its vantage point, but it marked the first steps towards resuming the once robust CARE (Creating Active Recreational Experience) program which is funded by donations made to Mountain Shadows Foundation.

More recently our residents spent the day at Camp Able, a special day camp on the Coronado Silver Strand that brings the joys and experiences of an aquatic day camp to individuals with disabilities. There is nothing like spending the day at the beach and for our residents being out in the fresh air and sunshine boosts their moods immediately.

And we have more planned: movies in the park, trips to the USS Midway, sit-skiing, horseback riding, and visits from animals.

Your donation makes these things possible.
