Kiwanis Club of Escondido – Hidden Valley: Helping to Beautify Our Mountain Shadows Community

by Sheryl Wilde

The Kiwanis Club of Escondido – Hidden Valley strives to fulfill the Kiwanis mission of changing the world, one community and one child at a time.

Club members have volunteered regularly over the years to help Mountain Shadows in many ways. Most recently, the Club donated their time in support of our Mountain Shadows Beautification project.

“The Kiwanis Club has been volunteering for our Beautification project for many years,” says Vickie Perdaris, Mountain Shadows Activity Director. “They help us cut down weeds, plant flowers, and mend fences on our quarter-acre side yard at Mountain Shadows Community Homes – San Diego campus.”

Adds Mike Monitori of the Kiwanis, “It was a fun, enjoyable, ‘making a difference’ day!”

In addition to their work at Mountain Shadows, Kiwanis Club members volunteer at the annual Rady Children’s Hospital Radiothon, teach children to fish at the Bi-Annual Children’s Fishing Experience at Lake Dixon, support the Escondido Children’s museum, make lunch for the needy and donate to the Salvation Army.

The Kiwanis Club of Escondido – Hidden Valley also works with high school KEY Clubs at Escondido High, Orange Glen High, San Pasqual High, Del Largo High and San Pasqual Academy. Club members share a strong desire to “give back” to the Escondido community and make it a better place to live.

Many thanks to the Kiwanis Club of Escondido – Hidden Valley for making a difference in the lives of our residents!
