Mountain Shadows “CARNIVAL” held at Veteran’s Memorial Park, Riverside. |
At Carnival Every Smile is
a Confetti Burst of Happiness!*
“We held our first Riverside picnic since 2019, with the theme of Carnival!” says Olivia Garcia, MSCH – Riverside. “It was really exciting to get everybody back together, and get all our residents out again.”
Adds Heather Van Alstine, MSCH – Riverside, “It was a great event. There was tons of food – cotton candy, snow cones, popcorn, hot dogs, hamburgers, baked beans, Mexican corn. We even had churros for the first time.
“Nettie’s Petting Zoo was there and the residents got to pet the pig, pet the chicken, pet the goat. They loved it!”
Adds Janet Steen, MSCH – Riverside, “The residents love looking at and touching the animals.” |
Every Laugh is a Firework Lighting up the Night Sky!*
“It’s nice to see all the smiles and laughter,” adds Janet. “Each Riverside house decorated an easy-out to go with the Carnival theme. Everyone did really well. We were going to have a contest and judge the decorations, but they were all so good, everyone won, and each house won a pizza party.” |
At Carnival We Embrace the Magic – the Extraordinary!*
“Anthony Hernandez, a magician, returned this year,” says Janet. “He put on the best magic show ever! The residents – everyone – really loved the magic show.”
Adds Olivia, “The magic tricks were all really cool. The magician brought resident Tymarri and one of the staff members up to assist with tricks. That was really fun.” |
Happiness Dances in the Streets!*
“Tymarri was really rocking out at the DJ station!” says Ruth Hill, MSF Board of Directors.
Adds Janet, “Tymarri LOVED the music! He was dancing in his wheelchair. DJ Gilbert was great. Tymarri was there at the DJ station and didn’t want to leave!” |
Fun and Games Abound!
“There were games and raffles too,” says Olivia. “We also recognized long-term staff members with gifts and bonuses. There were lots of staff recognized for working at Mountain Shadows for five years. There were even two who have been with us for 30 years!” |
Carnival is a Ticket to Fun! “The Carnival was really fun,” says Heather. “The whole day is about the residents and making it fun for them. It’s a time they can just enjoy each other’s company for the day. Everyone had a really great time.” |
“The Carnival was a big event,” adds Janet. “It was a perfect day, and everything went smoothly.”
Stacy Sullivan, Executive Director of Mountain Shadows Support Group and Mountain Shadows Ancillary Services, expressed her appreciation, saying, “Everyone did a great job, and seeing it all come together was incredible. Special thanks to the staff who worked to make this event possible for our residents, and a big thank you to our foundation for supporting this amazing day.” “Our thanks to the staff, the drivers, the vendors, the volunteers, and to the Mountain Shadows Foundation for funding the Carnival,” says Janet. “We all came together to make this a day the residents will always remember – because we care.”
